Over-deck = drum sits on deck. Under-deck = drum recessed below deck, foil exits at deck level.

Step 1 · From the halyard swivel
Max luff
Measured in metres
Before you start: tie a long tape to the lowest shackle of the furler halyard swivel and set the backstay to 50% of maximum. Hoist the tape as far as it will go.

Now re-tie the tape directly to the halyard (without the swivel) and hoist again — take the remaining measurements from the halyard itself.

Luff & hoist measurements
Halyard hoisted · measured in metres
Before you start: choose a calm day. Attach a long tape to the genoa halyard, exiting from the lowest sheave at the masthead, and set the backstay to 50% of maximum. Hoist the tape as far as it will go, then measure the following.
m
To the bearing surface of the tack fitting
m
To the intersection of the forestay and deck
m
To deck height at the shroud base
m
To the front of the genoa track
m
To the back of the genoa track
For E and F, make sure the tape passes around the shrouds, as if it were the leech of the sail.
